A first Italy trip usually runs north to south: Venice, Florence, then Rome, connected by fast trains. Allow at least two nights in each, and book major sights such as the Vatican Museums and the Colosseum in advance.

What order should I visit the cities?

Venice – Florence – Rome (or the reverse) follows the main high-speed rail line. Add Pisa as a stop from Florence, or Naples and the Amalfi Coast after Rome.

Which sights need advance booking?

The Vatican Museums, Colosseum, Uffizi Gallery and the Last Supper in Milan sell out, especially in summer.

Do I need a Schengen visa?

Yes, for most South Asian passport holders. If Italy is where you spend the most nights, you usually apply to the Italian embassy.
