A UK trip usually starts in London and adds Scotland — Edinburgh and the Highlands — or a day trip to places such as Oxford, Bath or Stonehenge. The UK requires its own visitor visa; a Schengen visa does not cover it.
How long should I spend in London?
Three to four nights covers the main sights. Use the Underground and buy timed tickets for popular attractions.
Is Scotland worth adding?
Yes. Edinburgh is about four and a half hours from London by train, and the Highlands offer some of Europe's most dramatic scenery.
Which visa do I need?
A UK Standard Visitor visa, applied for online with biometrics at a visa application centre.
